Hanger Sword

Primary Material: Tempered Steel Backswords come in different varieties, some are cheaply made while others are much more finely constructed. The term “hanger” historically is somewhat interchangeable with ‘backsword’, but here it is somewhat arbitrarily used to represent the cruder, heavier type of these weapons. Most ‘hangers’ had more limited hand protection, and featured wide, sometimes heavy blades, though some especially in later eras these also had the full basket hilt. These often had a clumsier balance and were made more for wounds than fencing, but a shield like a targe might be the main form of defense. Functionally this weapon was almost like a falchion.
